From Joshua Snyder, Smiths Cove Fire Chief:
Hello Everyone
Now is as good of time as ever to restart my fight for what is right
I started this petition some 2 years ago because Volunteer Firefighters as well as Ground Search & Rescue Volunteers do not have provisions in place legislatively (Provincially & Federally) to protect from job action such as getting wrote up or worse being let go for simply wanting to do the right thing and respond to a call for help. At least from my research & conversations.
There has been many bills brought up but nothing has come to pass.
I want to add I am not seeking for an employer to pay employees for time lost to answer the call. I am seeking that if the call comes in that a worker can choose to inform Supervisor or boss, punch out if applicable and not fear for getting wrote up or worse being let go for simply responding to an accident, structure fire or other disaster.
If anyone has personally experienced issues with being let go, written up, penalized, now is the time to add your story.
I know you are out there because you have messaged me you are. The more of us that step forward, the better chance we have at getting some volunteer rights.
Please if you can sign this, share this and/or share your story. We are stronger when we stand united and together.
